Phase One: Life in the Provo, Utah Missionary Training Center (MTC)

Justin sure appreciates all the kind letters and packages he's received. He says he always looks forward to getting the mail everyday. " I think I am lucky because I am the only one that gets mail everyday." He gets more mail than anyone in his district. His family (grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins) have been spoiling him with lots of packages full of goodies and snacks. Dr. Pepper was even "smuggled" into the MTC for him..... he LOVED it! (He didn't fall asleep in class at all that day!) His cousin Ryan sent him his "FAV!" Cafe Rio steak salad (prepared Justin style)for his last day in the states. But when he opened the box they had taken it out and left a note that said it wasn't allowed. Perishables are not allowed to be sent there. He was REALLY bummed!! Oh well, thanks for the great effort Ryan! He goes on to say, "Thanks to all my friends and family that think and care about me so much!"

Justin didn't get much sleep the night before leaving for the MTC (packing, friends, haircuts, friends, family, friends, etc), after 45 minutes of sleep, he was off very early to the airport! Grandpa and Grandma Evans, Kali, Wade, Scott and Jeff Mathis were at our house at 5:00am to see us off. Grandpa Hong and Scott, Jeff, Kali and Wade saw Justin off at the airport.
It was raining in Provo and never let up. We had to stop at Cafe Rio for his favorite meal. His Uncle Young and Aunt Sharon met us there. Then it was off to the MTC. It was SO crowded at the MTC, we had no idea how many missionaries check in each week! He really did look like a missionary, ready to go. He checked in (by the way, his luggage was way heavy and he definitely will be fined at each airport for being overweight! He packed in normal Justin fashion... bringing way too much stuff!), got his official missionary badge and we were off to the orientation meeting where we part for two years each going through different doors. It's a tearful time saying goodbye for two years! But, we were SO proud of him and he was ready to start his missionary journey! After our MANY hugs and kisses, he walked to the door, turned and gave us a smile and a last big wave "goodbye"! The next time we embrace, he'll be a different, (and spanish speaking) man instead of the boy we left that day. After three weeks in the Provo MTC, he'll spend six weeks in the Lima, Peru MTC, then...... Bolivia here he comes!!
