Justin didn't get much sleep the night before leaving for the MTC (packing, friends, haircuts, friends, family, friends, etc), after 45 minutes of sleep, he was off very early to the airport! Grandpa and Grandma Evans, Kali, Wade, Scott and Jeff Mathis were at our house at 5:00am to see us off. Grandpa Hong and Scott, Jeff, Kali and Wade saw Justin off at the airport.
It was raining in Provo and never let up. We had to stop at Cafe Rio for his favorite meal. His Uncle Young and Aunt Sharon met us there. Then it was off to the MTC. It was SO crowded at the MTC, we had no idea how many missionaries check in each week! He really did look like a missionary, ready to go. He checked in (by the way, his luggage was way heavy and he definitely will be fined at each airport for being overweight! He packed in normal Justin fashion... bringing way too much stuff!), got his official missionary badge and we were off to the orientation meeting where we part for two years each going through different doors. It's a tearful time saying goodbye for two years! But, we were SO proud of him and he was ready to start his missionary journey! After our MANY hugs and kisses, he walked to the door, turned and gave us a smile and a last big wave "goodbye"! The next time we embrace, he'll be a different, (and spanish speaking) man instead of the boy we left that day. After three weeks in the Provo MTC, he'll spend six weeks in the Lima, Peru MTC, then...... Bolivia here he comes!!

Jenny,
It looks like we are off to a good start!
hh0530Dear Justin,
You are nothing short of being a hero to my eyes. You may not know how much you have contributed to the strengthening the spirituality of your direct and extended family members. It warmed my heart to know that your mission leads the entire missions in baptism per missionary:9 per missionary per year. That is great. You may even beat the number. Be of good cheer. Everybody here remembers you in his or her prayers. With love, Grandpa Hong
I just came across your blog it was fun to read of the same experiences my son Elder Kolton Jorgensen, from Mt. Pleasant, Utah has had. He is serving the same mission and time period as Elder Evans. I'm sure they will run across each other some time if they haven't already done so.
I send my prayers and support.

I also have a son serving the same time and place with Elder Evans. It is fun to read and share some of the same stories thus far. His name is Elder Kolton Jorgensen he is from Mt. Pleasant, Utah. I'm sure they will have the opportunity to serve together if they haven't already done so.
